Before your moving day:
-
Determine what items are going to be discarded. North Bay has many options for clothing, household items and furniture donations such as Value Village, Rebuilt Resources or local churches and charities.
-
Arrange for storage if necessary with Van's in our temperature controlled secured warehouse.
-
If an elevator is required for either your move out or move in, call and book it with the superintendent of the building. Helpful tip: If available request that it be padded on your moving day.
-
If you are doing your own packing, arrange to purchase supplies from Van's and inquire about our free box service!
-
Advise all important contacts and companies of your new address such as post office, insurance companies, utility companies, bank and credit cards, etc
Helpful packing tips:
-
Fill boxes to the top. Pack as much as you can in each box and fill any remaining space with crumbled up unprinted newsprint or cardboard.
-
Don't make boxes too heavy and be strategic on how you pack boxes such as dishes on end- not side by side on the bottom.
-
Label the boxes well - identify the room where each box is to be placed in the new house as well as important items inside the box.
-
"First Day Box" - pack a box with essentials for your first day such as a toilet paper, soap, paper towels, scissors, important papers, etc.
-
Large Appliances - make sure all appliances are cleaned out and dried. Leave the doors slightly ajar when storing to ensure air circulation.
-
Clothing - clothing in linens can remain in the dressers provided your dresser is not very heavy to begin with. For clothing hanging in your closets, Van's provides a wardrobe service moving clothes on hangers from one closet to the next!
-
"Electronic Box" - pack all the important electronics you want and take them with you such as your laptops and cords, the remote for your tv or any other devices.
Moving Day!
-
Disconnect all appliances and make sure to leave time for the freezer to defrost. Drain any hoses such as those on the dishwasher ad washing machine.
-
Empty all appliance such as the dishwasher, washer and dryer.
-
Fridges and Freezers - fridges and freezers should not run for at least 2-3 hours after they have been moved. If turned on too soon, you could burn out your compressor.
-
Disconnect cords: unplug cords on your TV, computer, gaming systems, stereos, electric chairs and floor lamps.
-
Sit back, relax and call Van's Delivery, Moving and Storage for your big moving day 705-474-5870!
